  1. Goodnight

That's the end of this live page now, thanks for joining us on a good night for English teams and English players.

Check out BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast.

I'll see you tomorrow for more Champions League action, with Manchester City involved.

  2. Post update

    Atletico Madrid 0-1 Chelsea

The one downside to that win for Chelsea is that Jorginho and Mason Mount are suspended for the second leg.

  3. 'We never let them breathe'

    Atletico Madrid 0-1 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel to BT Sport: "Fantastic result, fantastic goal. Well deserved.

"We wanted to dominate in the opponents' half, to never lose concentration, not to do any easy mistakes and always be aware of quick counter-attacks for all their quality.

"It was a very disciplined performance - a deserved shut-out. This is the hard work, a team effort - the basis for a big win.

"We knew it [Atletico packing their defence] could happen. We told the guys if it happens maybe it's our quality and the respect. We wanted to be brave and play in their half.

"We knew they were ready to suffer with eight people in the box. The intention was to keep the intensity high. This is what we did very good. We never let them breathe or come out for counter-attacks. We have a big reward with this result.

"This is one of the toughest challenges to open a defence like Atletico."

  4. 'A deserved win'

    Atletico Madrid 0-1 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud told BT Sport: "We came here with strong intentions to win the game, play our game and we know how we could give them trouble offensively. We have been strong at the back in the defensive shape and very pleased with the win, it was a deserved win tonight.

"We know the importance of the away goal in European cups so that is why I was pleased to help the team win the game, we managed it well and we were confident but faced a great team and I think we were very committed and knew their main strengths. We dealt with it but we have to stay focussed and complete the job.

"Not over confident, we were confident in our qualities in the game. I did not know what to think about the goal, I just focussed on hitting the overhead kick and was pleased to see it go in the back of the net, I had no clue about being offside, Mason Mount said he did not touch the ball. Good for the team, good for me."

  5. Post update

    Atletico Madrid 0-1 Chelsea

Chelsea have kept three consecutive clean sheets against Spanish teams in European competition for the first time in their history. The first two were against Sevilla in the group stage.

  6. Post update

    Atletico Madrid 0-1 Chelsea

Atletico Madrid failed to have a single shot on target - the first time that has happened in a Champions League game since March 2019 against Juventus.

  7. Post update

    Lazio 1-4 Bayern Munich

Bayern are unbeaten in 18 Champions League fixtures - winning 17. Their last European defeat was the last 16 second leg against Liverpool in March 2019.

The only longer unbeaten runs in the Champions League have been 25 by Manchester United (2007-2009), 19 by Ajax (1994-1996) and 19 by Bayern (2001-2002).

  8. Post update

    Lazio 1-4 Bayern Munich

Bayern are unbeaten in 17 Champions League away matches, setting a new record.

Manchester United had the previous record with 16 away games unbeaten between 2007 and 2010.

  9. Post update

    Atletico Madrid 0-1 Chelsea

Edouard Mendy has now kept a clean sheet in five of his six Champions League matches. The only goal he conceded was against his old club Rennes.

  10. Post update

    Lazio 1-4 Bayern Munich

Bayern boss Hansi Flick is unbeaten in all 15 Champions League matches (W14 D1).

The only manager to go longer before losing a first Champions League game was Louis van Gaal, who won 14 and drew five as Ajax boss before finally losing.

John Arundell: Chelsea's first real test and they passed, great team effort.

Uncle Busby: Proof of the decline of La Liga if these are top. Poor display from an horrifically average Atletico team, not even a shadow of the side they once were.

SMS Message: This Atleti are by far the dullest side I've seen this season! They'd rather get nil than score!!! from Ben

  12. 'Chelsea did a good job on Atletico'

    FT: Atletico Madrid 0-1 Chelsea

    Leon Osman

Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's a great result for Chelsea. Atletico Madrid don't give much away, they know how to defend and they know how to progress in Champions League ties and Chelsea did a really good job on them tonight.

Yes Atletico had injury problems but I expected to see a lot more from them moving forward - but Chelsea nullified them in every sense and then took that great opportunity through Olivier Giroud.

    Chelsea
  13. Post update

    Atletico Madrid 0-1 Chelsea

This is the first time Atletico have lost a Champions League 'home' match under Diego Simeone in the knockout phases.

  14. Post update

    Atletico Madrid 0-1 Chelsea

Olivier Giroud is only the third player in 14 games to score an away goal against Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid in a Champions League knockout match. Kaka (2014) and Isco (2017) were the others.

Admittedly this was a home game in name only for Atletico.

  15. Post update

    Atletico Madrid 0-1 Chelsea

Olivier Giroud, 34, is the oldest player to score for an English side in the knockout stages of the Champions League since Ryan Giggs, 37, in April 2011 for Manchester United against Schalke.

  16. FULL-TIME

    Atletico Madrid 0-1 Chelsea

It's all over. The biggest result of Thomas Tuchel's reign as Chelsea boss so far. And well deserved.

  17. FULL-TIME

    Lazio 1-4 Bayern Munich

It's all over in Rome. The goals dried up but Bayern are in control of their tie.
