Manchester United are gearing up for an exciting new era that will get started in the coming days.

Ralf Rangnick is expected to be named as interim head coach in a deal until the end of the season before taking up a consultancy position at Old Trafford when a new manager is appointed.

The 63-year-old is a highly-respected figure around Europe over recent years having enjoyed real success with Schalke and most notably, RB Leipzig whom he led over a four-year period.

Since then he's been working as head of sports and development with Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow, meaning his knowledge of the game has been strengthened further.

Rangnick has huge knowledge of the talent available in Germany and Russia and, with the January transfer window just around the corner, it'll be interesting to see if United could tap into those markets.

Here are some of the players who may crop up on the Red Devils' shopping list.

Lucas Klostermann

The German defender is a shining light at RB Leipzig.

Klostermann is a right back who can also play in central defence, two positions which Manchester United will be keen to strengthen before long.

The 25-year-old has scored 13 goals and provided 11 assists for RB Leipzig in 210 appearances for the club and with 16 caps for Germany to his name there's no doubt that the player would tick many boxes for Rangnick at Old Trafford.

Djibril Sow

The Eintracht Frankfurt man has been the star of a struggling team so far this term.

The 25-year-old is a defensive midfielder who is renowned for his tackling, pressing and high-intensity play in the middle of the park.

With Rangnick keen to implement his trademark gegenpress approach to the game, Sow could be a really shrewd addition for Manchester United.

Dmitri Barinov

Another central midfielder who could be a smart, but understated signing.

Barinov is a star player for Lokomotiv Moscow and while many players from the Russian side might struggle to perform for a club like United, the 25-year-old is someone who could make that step up.

The Russian international is a no-nonsense player and having represented Russia at Euro 2020 he's clearly a player who is capable of performing on the big stage.

Nordi Mukiele

A player who Rangnick knows very well having brought him to RB Leipzig in 2018.

The 25-year-old right-back is a player who knows what it takes to succeed in the 63-year-old high-intensity system and given his experience at Champions League level he's someone who could really thrive at Old Trafford.

Given that his deal expires next summer, this is one that United could be genuinely tempted to pull off in January.

Yussuf Poulsen

Manchester United might be well stocked in attacking positions, but they don't have a player like Poulsen.

The 27-year-old striker has led the line for RB Leipzig and is renowned for his physical style of play but given that he's currently injured it could be a tough one to pull off straight away.

That said, when the Denmark international does return to fitness he could be the perfect fit for United's new style of play.

Florian Grillitsch

A player who isn't renowned for his pressing style, but would certainly help Manchester United to move forward with pace.

The central midfielder currently plays for Hoffenheim but is out of contract next summer, meaning that he could be available for a bargain fee in January.

The 26-year-old would certainly be an interesting option but would probably need a more physically intense player alongside him in the middle of the park.
